Businessman and advocate for disabled rights Keith Parker Tibbetts Jr., founder of Associated Industries, which includes Ace, AI Rentals and Parker’s, passed away on 5 June. He was 73.

Wellesley Howell, 7 Jan. 1915 – 23 July 2021

Cayman’s oldest person, shoemaker and musician Wellesley Howell, passed away on 23 July. He had turned 106 the previous January.

Heather McLaughlin, 10 June 1940 – 19 Aug. 2021

Author, historian and teacher Heather McLaughlin passed away on 29 Aug. She was 81.

Athletics pioneer Gerald ‘Jerry’ Harper, known by many simply as ‘Coach’, passed away on 24 Oct. He was 83.

Dr. Edward Caudeiron, 28 Sept. 1951 – 17 Nov. 2021

Obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr. Edward Caudeiron, 71, who delivered more than 3,000 babies in Cayman, passed away on 17 Nov.

Gilbert Connolly, 7 June 1951 – 18 Nov. 2021

Former CEO of the Tourism Attraction Board, Gilbert Connolly, passed away on 18 Nov., at the age of 70.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, 10 June 1921 – 9 April 2021

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, died on April 9, at the age of 99. He visited Cayman three times in his lifetime. After his passing, businessman and former politician Burns Rutty shared a story with the Cayman Compass of fishing and drinking beers with the prince during his visit in 1962.

Former president of South Africa, FW de Klerk, passed away on 11 Nov. after a battle with cancer. He was 85.

‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘The Norm Show’ comedian, Norm MacDonald, 61, who performed at KAABOO in Cayman in 2019, died on 14 Sept., at the age of 61.

Rolling Stone drummer Charlie Watts died on 24 Aug. at the age of 80.

Dominican merengue legend Johnny Ventura, known as the ‘Caballo Mayor’ passed away on 28 July. He was 81.

Richard Donner, director of ‘The Goonies’, ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘Superman’, died in Los Angeles on 5 July, at the age of 91.

US former defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who under presidents Gerald Ford and George W. Bush, died on June 29. He was 88.

Astronaut Michael Collins, who manned the Apollo 11 command module while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon, died on April 28 at the age of 90.

Reggae artist Bunny Wailer – born Neville Livingston – was the last surviving member of The Wailers, the band he formed with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. He died on 2 March, at the age of 73.

Mary Wilson, a founding member of The Supremes, died Feb. 8, at her home in Las Vegas. She was 76 years old.

Boxer Leon Spinks, who as an unranked fighter beat Muhammah Ali in a heavyweight championship in 1978, died on 5 Feb. at the age of 67.

Oscar winner Christopher Plummer, who starred at Captain von Trapp in the ‘Sound of Music’, died at his home in Connecticut on 5 Feb. at the age of 91.

Talk-show host Larry King, who hosted more than 50,000 interviews in his career, passed away on 23 Jan., at the age of 87.
