Elvis McKeever before court on harassment charge

Elvis McKeever

Former political hopeful Elvis McKeever, of Cayman Brac, made an initial Grand Court appearance today, 21 Jan., on a charge of using an ICT (information and communications technology) network to annoy, abuse or harass.

McKeever, 63, was arrested in connection with a social media post from November 2021, in which he is alleged to have made remarks that amounted to annoyance or harassment.

No plea was entered today; however, McKeever’s lawyer made his position clear.

“My instructions are firm, and a plea of not guilty will be entered,” said Prathna Bodden, who represents McKeever.

Bodden told the court that, despite her client’s firm stance, they would not be able to enter a formal plea because her client had not been served with the indictment.

McKeever, who appeared via video link, was released on bail under the condition that he not use any social media platform or telephone to commit any breach of the ICT Network Law.

He is next due to appear before the Grand Court on 4 Feb.
