Governor Martyn Roper has added his voice to others around the globe, wishing Queen Elizabeth a “speedy recovery” from COVID.

In a statement, shared on his social media channels, Roper sent “very best wishes to Her Majesty from all of us in the Cayman Islands”.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen had tested positive for COVID on Sunday. In a statement, the palace said she was experiencing “mild, coldlike symptoms”.

Roper added she was continuing to undertake “light duties” in spite of the virus.

The announcement comes ahead of a year of celebrations for the monarch, as she marks her Platinum Jubilee.

Earlier this month, Cayman hosted a special sitting of the Parliament to mark the Queen’s ascension to the throne on 6 Feb. 1952.

The jurisdiction will enjoy a four-day weekend in June, with a host of celebratory events scheduled to mark the Queen’s 70-year tenure on the throne, including an international air show and trees planted across the islands as part of a special programme called “The Queen’s Green Canopy: Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
