A George Town man is being treated at the Cayman Islands Hospital after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency services responded to the firearms incident at the Strand on Canal Point Road at around 3:30am, Saturday 12 March, according to a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service news release.

“It was reported that several shots were heard in the area, prior to a vehicle leaving the scene with a man who had received gunshot wounds,” the statement reads.

“The man, a 31 year old from George Town, as delivered by private vehicle to the [Cayman Islands] Hospital, where he received medical treatment for gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg.”

Police said his injuries are believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

The incident is under investigation.

Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
