Andrew Jarvis has earned bragging rights in the Jarvis household following a victory over his younger brother Aaron at the Cayman Islands national golf championships.
Andrew and Aaron teed off over the weekend and, as expected, the brothers separated themselves from the pack, battling for the prestigious cup at the North Sound Golf Course.
“My brother is a solid player… We battled it out today and I gave him a run for his money,” Aaron told the Cayman Compass following final play on the 18th hole.
After tying in the first round 67-67 on Saturday, 12 Mar., Andrew defended his national title the next day, edging his younger brother after shooting a total 7-under-par 135.
Aaron, who made history in January after winning the Latin America Amateur Championship in the Dominican Republic and qualifying for the upcoming US Masters, shot 3-under-par 139 overall in the weekend tournament.
It was enough to take second overall in the men’s division, ahead of former national champion Payten Wight and Danny Lyne who tied for third.
However, sportsmanship proved the winner seconds after the final shot, with the two brothers embracing in front of nearly 100 fans cheering them on.
Andrew credited his younger brother’s efforts and said while he was victorious, it was no easy task.
“[Aaron’s] game is where it needs to be,” Andrew told the Compass. “That battle was tough today. I went up on the front nine and he just stuck around there, and it was back-and-forth.”
The two brothers will soon travel to Augusta, Georgia, where Aaron is scheduled to compete at the US Masters starting 7 April.
