Police have confirmed they are investigating a break-in at the Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman office on Mary Street in George Town.
In response to queries from the Cayman Compass, a police spokesperson said, via email, that shortly after 8am Monday, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service responded to a report of a burglary that occurred at that office on Sunday night.
“The front window was smashed and entry gained to the building. It appears items were stolen, but the investigation is in early stages,” the police spokesperson said.
The break-in prompted the temporary closure of the Apollo House office for a half-day on Monday.
WORC issued a notice advising the public of the closure, saying it was “due to a recent office break-in. The RCIPS will be on the scene to investigate and customers are asked not to come to the office until an opening hour has been announced.”
At 1pm the office reopened with limited services.
The department also advised that customers making payments by debit card, credit card or cheques could do so at the office; however, no cash will be accepted.
When the Cayman Compass visited the office Monday afternoon there were a few customers lined up, waiting to hand in documents.
WORC has advised that it will open as normal on Tuesday, 29 March, from 8:30pm-4pm.
The public has been asked to email [email protected] for assistance in using the payment portal or visit www.worc.ky for payment instructions.
