The Cayman Islands Coast Guard said it was resuming search and rescue operations Saturday after a male was rescued on Friday 22 April from a vessel that had capsized.
Just after 9am Friday, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) Operations and Rescue Command Centre (ORCC) were informed of floating packages in the general area of Governor’s Harbour Channel, according to a police news release.
The CICG, assisted by the Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), deployed to the area, recovered a package and started their search.
Several other packages were recovered between Star Fish Point in North Side and Barkers in West Bay.
The news release did not say what was in the packages.
While conducting the search in the Blowers area just after 1pm Friday, officers on board a CIFS vessel located the male floating amongst several packages.
The man was recovered and immediately rendered first aid, the release says. He was taken to shore where he was then transported by ambulance to hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment.
Further efforts were made by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, CIFS and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) helicopter to locate other persons who were said to have been on board the capsized vessel.
No further sightings were made, however.
Efforts were stood down at 5pm Friday. The search resumed Saturday, police said.
