Fourteen Cubans have been placed into temporary quarantine on Cayman Brac after arriving on two separate vessels hours apart from each other.
According to a statement by Customs and Border Control on Saturday 23 April, the first vessel arrived on Cayman Brac at approximately 4:15pm on Friday 22 April. It had six males and three females on board.
“In the early hours of the morning on Saturday, 23rd April, another marine vessel with five males arrived again,” reads the statement.
All migrants are now being temporarily quarantined in line with Cayman’s COVID-19 regulations.
They will be transported to Grand Cayman in the coming weeks.
The 14 new arrivals bring the total number of Cuban migrants in Cayman to 26.
On 14 April, a vessel carrying 12 males ran aground in Spot Bay, Cayman Brac. One migrant was treated at Faith Hospital for exhaustion, and later joined the rest of the men in temporary isolation.
