One man is nursing injuries to his face after being struck by an offender during one of two armed robberies on Sunday night, police have confirmed.
Both incidents, police said on Monday, are believed to be connected.
The first incident happened shortly after 8:45pm outside a premises on Shedden Road, George Town, just west of Eastern Avenue.
Police said a woman had just exited the establishment when she was approached by a silver Honda CRV with tinted windows.
According to police, two men exited the vehicle, one armed with a handgun, and demanded her handbag.
The men took the checkered light-and-dark-brown handbag, which contained the woman’s passport, purse, cellphone and other personal items.
The men then returned to the car and drove off.
The woman was not injured and no shots were fired, police said.
The man with the handgun was described as short and slim in stature, of light brown complexion. He was dressed in black clothing, with long sleeves, balaclava, and black gloves. The second man was tall and muscular of light brown complexion, also dressed in black clothing, with long sleeves and light green gloves.
Police said later that night a second armed robbery was reported at Domino’s Pizza on Garston Smith Drive, West Bay.
Police said shortly after 10pm, two masked men armed with handguns entered the local pizza place and demanded money from the staff.
Officers said during the encounter a staff member was struck in the face by one of the masked men.
Both suspects left the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash.
The wounded staff member was taken to Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance to receive medical attention.
The RCIPS is encouraging anyone that may have witnessed either of these robberies, or has information concerning these incidents, to contact 911 or the police confidential tip line at 949-7777.
Investigations are continuing.
