A major police operation is currently underway in the West Bay Road area Friday night as police hunt two suspects after seizing a firearm.
Police have confirmed one shot was fired by a pursuing tactical firearms officer hunting the suspects Friday night. There were no reported injuries.
One suspect, the Cayman Compass has been told, is in custody following a search earlier Friday night on West Bay Road.
According to police, officers stopped and searched a vehicle and the occupants escaped.
One male was then arrested and one gun was recovered. Two males are still being sought, police said.
Officers from the armed Crime Suppression Unit, together with other officers, are engaging in searches of motor vehicles and nearby buildings as they hunt two other suspects.
Preliminary reports state that officers were alerted to the individuals in question earlier Friday evening.
The RCIPS is yet to issue a formal statement on the situation.
The Compass was told one will be issued once the details are available.
