Cayman Islands racer Kyffin Simpson has signed a multi-year development deal with Chip Ganassi Racing.
CGR announced the signing of the Indy Lights driver on Thursday, 12 May, noting that they hoped their 30-plus years of motorsports experience will contribute to Simpson, 17, when he hits the track.
“I am very excited to be joining such a great team as Chip Ganassi Racing,” Simpson told the Cayman Compass. “[I] can’t wait to be learning from their amazing drivers and staff to prepare me for INDYCAR.”
Simpson’s new team has captured 21 championships and earned more than 230 victories since being founded in 1990. They have competed in some of the biggest racing competitions, including the NASCAR Cup, Global Rallycross Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship and the Rolex Sports Car Series.
Mike Hull, managing director at Chip Ganassi Racing, stated in an article on Indycar.com that he hopes Simpson will also contribute to the success of his multifaceted team.
“Kyffin has impressed us with his driving abilities, especially at such a young age, and we wanted to find a path toward bringing him into the Ganassi family,” Hull said.
Simpson told the Compass he is next racing in Detroit, from 3-5 June.
