It is hard to believe that Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 70 years.
For most of us, she is the only British monarch we have known, and those who were in the Cayman Islands when she visited in 1983 and 1994 will never forget the experience.
In order to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment in style, the government has been planning events for months, and although the inclement weather has caused some postponements, there are still items on the calendar recognising the reign of our extraordinary queen.

Calendar of Events
Thursday, 2 June

Heroes Square @ 2pm
Appointed town crier, Craig Merren, will be announcing the lighting of the beacons to the community. All are welcome to attend.
Official Beacon Lighting (Grand Cayman)

The concert that was planned at Pedro St. James has been postponed, but the official lighting of the beacon will take place at 9:15pm after a brief introduction, coinciding with other countries lighting at the same time. It will be available to watch online on the CIG YouTube channel, or on CIGTV.
Official Lighting of the Beacon (Cayman Brac)

The public is invited to gather at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre for music and refreshments, to prepare for the lighting of the beacon in Cayman Brac, which will also take place at 9:15pm.

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee
Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The Cayman Islands Government encourages the people of the Cayman Islands to plant 70 native, endemic or fruit trees in each constituency, and 70 mahogany trees across all three islands.
Saturday, 4 June
Queen’s Birthday Parade
Aston Rutty Centre, Cayman Brac @ 10am
This is the first Queen’s Birthday Parade to be held in the Sister Island of Cayman Brac, so it is hoped there will be a great turnout from the community. Although originally scheduled for the District Administration Lawn and Kirkconnell Street, the decision was made to move the event in case of weather, rather than postpone it.
Jubilee Celebration and Fireworks
Aston Rutty Civic Centre/Spot Bay Cove, Cayman Brac @ 7pm
Head to the Aston Rutty Civic Centre for a celebratory event at 7pm, followed by Spot Bay Cove at 9pm for a brilliant firework display to light up the night sky.
