A magnitude 5 earthquake was recorded about 65 miles off the southwest coast of Grand Cayman on Thursday afternoon, followed within the next hour and a half by two more smaller quakes at shallower depths.
The United States Geological Society reported that the first underwater tremor occurred at 1:29pm, at a depth of 7.5 miles.
At 2:01pm, 60 miles south-southwest of George Town, the second quake, with a magnitude of 4.5, was recorded at a depth about 6.2 miles.
Then, at 3:13pm, a third tremor, of magnitude 4.4, was recorded 64 miles off George Town, also at a depth of 6.2 miles.
There were no reports of damage on island, and no tsunami warning was issued.
