Police Constable Antonio Lopez Jackson has been killed while on holiday with his family in Honduras.
The 64-year-old, from George Town, was shot dead on Saturday, police have confirmed. No one else was injured.
Jackson served with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service for a total of 24 years.
“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague in these circumstances, and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends,” said Commissioner of Police Derek Byrne in a statement.
He offered his support to the family and confirmed police are liaising with their Honduran counterparts.

He said a full investigation is under way.
