The Coast Guard and police helicopter came to the rescue of three people stranded at sea after their boat overturned near 12-Mile Bank on Sunday.
The vessel was almost completely submerged, and the three people were in the water, around the boat, when they were spotted by the police helicopter, the RCIPS said in a statement.
Police and Coast Guard crews were deployed just after 8pm, following a 9-1-1 call, the RCIPS said.
The vessel was at an unknown location, “potentially the south side of 12-Mile Bank”.
The police helicopter spotted the nearly submerged vessel, and its passengers, using search-and-rescue equipment on board, around 8:45pm.
The Coast Guard’s Protector vessel, which was already deployed and heading towards the distressed boat, was directed to the location by the police air unit, and arrived at the scene around 9pm, the RCIPS said.
The Coast Guard crew picked up those in the water and took them on Protector to George Town Harbour where they were met by Emergency Medical Services, and evaluated before being released.
The Coast Guard and the RCIPS thanked all the members of the public who joined them in their efforts to locate the vessel.
