Four Jamaican men arrested in Cayman last weekend, including two wanted in their home country for murder, were deported back to Jamaica this morning, Customs and Border Control confirmed.
Neville Peter Butler, 27, and Ravan L. George, 29, are both wanted in Jamaica on suspicion of multiple serious offences, including murder, according to a statement issued by CBC.
The two murder suspects and the other two men – described by CBC as their “associates”, who are also wanted for serious offences in Jamacia – were removed from Cayman under the provisions of the Customs and Border Control Act, which allows for overstayers or individuals who have landed in Cayman illegally to be deported.
Three of the men, including Butler and George, had entered Cayman illegally, while the fourth man’s work permit had been revoked by Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman, the CBC said.
All four were arrested during an RCIPS operation on 6 Aug.
They were escorted on board an aircraft by border control, police and prison officers and handed over to the Jamaican authorities upon arrival there, the CBC said.
This is the second time in recent weeks that murder suspects wanted in Jamaica have been found in Cayman and have been deported.
On 27 July, Rudolph Almando Shaw, who was wanted in Jamaica for multiple murders, and who had been arrested in Cayman on 8 July, was escorted by law enforcement officers back to Jamaica.
Shaw was arrested following a brief chase involving armed police, during which he rammed the car he was driving into a police car. He and another man fled from the vehicle. Shaw was quickly captured, but the second man got away.
Police, in a statement issued earlier this week, said they believed Butler was the man who fled from police that day.
Butler and the three other other men were arrested after police stopped their car on Batabano Road, West Bay, on Saturday, 6 Aug.
Police said they observed a package being thrown from the vehicle, which was found to contain ganja, and all four occupants of the car were initially arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja. Three of the men were later re-arrested on suspicion of illegal landing.
