Despite the best efforts of mechanics and those who voluntarily run the animal charity One Dog At A Time, it has become clear that the latter’s vitally important van used to save and transport countless dogs is on its last legs.
“It’s been hanging on the past year, but we’re told it’s going to need parts that will be expensive and take ages to get to the island,” said Paula Blane of ODAAT. “It makes no sense to put that kind of money into the van, and even if we did, we can’t afford to have it off the road for any length of time.”
The charity is therefore appealing to the public for donations to help it purchase a reliable vehicle so it can continue to do its good work. The van is in constant use for vet appointments, rescuing vulnerable animals from bad situations, airport runs, moving crates and collecting donations. To have it break down just simply isn’t an option.
“A new van will probably cost us around $18,000 by the time we look at the fees, insurance and having it properly set up inside for our needs,” Blane said. “I know it may not seem like an exciting project to be donating towards, but it is of paramount importance to our charity. We are really hoping that the community can help us help these animals that deserve so much love and a good home.”
ODAAT does run a charity shop, and tirelessly posts items for sale online that have been donated to it, but this particular need is immediate and requires a quick influx of funds.
“We would so appreciate anyone willing to contribute,” Blane said. “Please spread the word, and help make this dream a reality.”
Donation options can be found through the ODAAT website, or visit the charity’s Facebook page, where a running tally of money raised for the van will be posted regularly.

With all of the money gov. gives out, you’d think they would be able to help a group of volunteers trying to help out on a much needed effort on the island.
Just saying…don’t make it an only island people effort.
Please find a way for gov. to assist.
Thank you.
