Update, 6:30pm, Wednesday: Water Authority-Cayman has lifted its Boil Water Notice for its customers in the Rum Point area.
In a public service announcement issued shortly after 6pm today, the authority said that, following “extensive testing” by its accredited laboratory, results had confirmed that the water is safe for customers to consume.
Original story:
After a water main was damaged in Hurricane Ian, the Water Authority is advising all residents of Rum Point to boil their drinking water before consuming it.
The ‘Boil Water Notice’ was issued on Tuesday night until further notice.
“This notice is a precautionary measure following the now completed repair of the water main break identified [on] 26 September 2022, following the passing of Hurricane Ian,” the Water Authority said.
The notice applies to all customers west of the Sea Lodges at Cayman Kai, located on Rum Point Road, including customers on the following roads:
- Rum Point Drive (west of and including Sea Lodges)
- Camp Drive
- Finger Cay
- Sand Point Road
- Water Cay
- Kaibo Crescent
- Sancola Close
Residents in those areas should boil water vigorously for at least one minute and then let it cool prior to consuming, which includes drinking, cooking, ice-making and brushing teeth, the Water Authority said.
“Customers in the area should continue to adhere to the boil water notice until the Water Authority confirms the notice has been lifted,” it added.
The water main was damaged as Hurricane Ian passed Cayman on Monday, cutting off the water supply to residents in the area. Due to flooding, the Water Authority crew could not repair the damage until Tuesday morning.
