Meteorologists are monitoring two weather systems which have formed in the Atlantic.

A tropical wave, located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, is expected to reach the eastern Caribbean Sea by mid-week.

The US National Hurricane Center says further development of the wave is possible, and a tropical depression could form during the next few days as it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph.

There is a 30% chance of formation in the next 48 hours, and a 40% likelihood of formation through the next five days.

Further east, an elongated area of low pressure, located several hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands, is producing disorganised showers and thunderstorms, according to the NHC.

Some gradual development is expected, and a tropical depression is likely to form around the middle part of this week, the NHC said.

The system is forecast to move westward, then turn northwestward or northward by the end of the week over the eastern tropical Atlantic.

It has a 40% chance of formation within the next two days, and a 70% chance of formation in the next five days.
