A case of causing death by dangerous driving has been put off once again, as attorneys attempt to secure an in-depth fitness-to-plea report for Tarrick Kevin Crawford.
Crawford, 29, was the driver in a high-speed collision that claimed the life of Shayne Ewart in January last year.
His most recent appearance before the Grand Court was on Friday, 28 Oct., more than one year since the matter was originally transferred from the Summary Court.
During the brief mention hearing, his attorney, Carina Clare, told the court she was in possession of a report but noted “it is not appropriate”.
“There is still an outstanding psychiatric report,” said Clare. “All I know is, a report was requested and a very short report came back, and it is not appropriate.”
According to police, Crawford fled from officers after being stopped along West Bay Road shortly after 1am on 16 Jan. 2021, eventually leaving the roadway in the vicinity of Willie Farrington Drive, where the car crashed into the side of a concrete building.
Ewart, 25, of West Bay, the owner of the vehicle, was a passenger in the front seat at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cayman Islands Hospital.
Crawford has been released on bail with the next scheduled court date 9 Dec.
