Just read about the $7 lettuce. What a shock. Hard to believe, even though you never expect to be shocked by the prices of some things in Cayman. Just goes to show, nowhere seems to be a good place to be these days, with rampant inflation seemingly everywhere.
Here in the UK, we have all sorts of battles going on between the established supermarkets and the two German interlopers, Aldi and Lidl, who, with their different and winning business plans, have really put a cat among the pigeons, though they, too, have had to increase prices.
Perhaps for the sake of equanimity, I did make it my business to find an item over here with a ridiculously high price and came across a jar of manuka honey priced at, wait for it, no less than £88. I kid you not. Yes, rationing is here once again, dictated by price and not shortages.
Sorry to be such a misery. As the poet Roger McGough says, moaning about this and that helps take his mind off things.
