Around 150 walkers, runners, and riders are expected to turn out for the annual Pete Ribbins Memorial Ride/Run which takes place this Sunday, 27 Nov.

The event honours the legacy of Pete Ribbins, the former general manager of Cayman Water, who passed away from Parkinson’s in 2010.

While he is remembered for many things, in the sporting community, Ribbins is recognised as a triathlete, having competed in the Iron Man World Championship in 1991.

He also played seven seasons in the Canadian Football League, mostly with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1971. He joined the Edmonton Eskimos in 1977.

The memorial ride/run will be raising funds Jasmine, who cared for Ribbins before he passed. Organisers for the event told the Cayman Compass they hope to continue their decade-long relationship with Jasmine.

“Since 2013, we’ve raised and donated over $50,000 to Jasmine,” the organisers stated.

“The last highest single donation was $9,000 in 2020. We encourage families and their pets to join us.”

The 40k ride will open the event at 6:30am, followed by the 10k and 5k walk/run at 7:30am.

All participants will begin at the Abel Castillo Water Works Plant in Governors Harbour.
