Police on Tuesday launched an extensive search for two men who threatened a woman with a firearm and then crashed their car into a wall along South Sound Road after being intercepted by police.
The operation to find the suspects closed a section of the road for a few hours on Monday morning.
Police said in a statement that the RCIPS had received a report of a man brandishing a firearm at a woman before leaving in a vehicle along with another man.
“Firearms officers caught up with the suspect vehicle, which pulled into the yard of a private residence along South Sound Road and collided with a wall,” the RCIPS said in a statement.
The two suspects left the vehicle and ran towards the rear of the premises onto the beachside and then made their way into dense bush area on the landside, police said.
The RCIPS Firearms Response Unit, the Air Operations Unit and other police divisions carried out an extensive search of the area, but did not locate the suspects.
One of the wanted men is described as being about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, of fair complexion, with a plaited hairstyle, and dressed in a white T-shirt, blue jeans shorts and black slippers. The other suspect is described as being approximately 5 feet, 8 inches in height, of slim build, dark complexion, with a plaited hairstyle, and dressed in a black jeans shorts and black T-shirt.
The vehicle the suspects had been travelling in was seized by the RCIPS.
Police said no shots were fired and there were no injuries.
The suspects remain at large.
