Leader of the Opposition Roy McTaggart, in his Christmas message, is urging residents to reach out to people who are in need of company and support this festive season.

“Sadly, there are too many of our people, the elderly and young, who struggle with loneliness or mental health issues, and who need someone to show they care,” he said.

“I hope you will seek out someone who is struggling this Christmas, and to whom you may bring a ray of hope and happiness. Giving the gift of your time and company can make all the difference.”

McTaggart noted that as well as losing Queen Elizabeth II this year, a number of iconic figures in Cayman had passed away during 2022, including his own father, William.

“So, my thoughts are with everyone who has lost a loved one and who will have a less than happy Christmas. Even as we remember those we have lost, we also thank God we have so much to be grateful for,” he said.

He acknowledged the financial challenges facing families in Cayman and worldwide, who are having difficulties making ends meet.

“The war in Ukraine has made things worse for all of us, but sadly, significantly worse for the people of Ukraine,” he said. “Amazingly, even in places where daily strife and great sorrow exists, people will take time this Christmas to be thankful for life and the promise of the birth of Jesus Christ.”
