The annual Light Up Night Beach Walk along Seven Mile Beach to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation will be held on 4 March, and registration for the event is now open, organisers have announced.

Under the light of the moon each year, hundreds of walkers take a stroll along the beach, from the Public Beach to the Ritz-Carlton and back, waving fluorescent pink glow-sticks. Last year, more than 1,000 people took part.

Registration costs $25, and the prices includes a T-shirt and entry into a raffle.

Janette Fitzgerald, chief administrator of the Breast Cancer Foundation, said in a press release announcing the upcoming event, “The evening has a great party atmosphere, with our reusable light up pink batons (which we ask to be returned to our team at the end of the walk), the sight of so many people walking down Seven Mile Beach is awesome. Our aim is to raise vital money to help those who need us and to raise awareness. Early detection truly does save lives.”

She said the foundation has almost 400 patients and survivors signed up to its wellness programme or receiving help on many levels from the charity, free of charge, so “the funds raised from the walk are needed now more than ever”.

Those registering for the walk are asked to state the shirt size they wish to reserve and if they want a full T or a tanktop/vest. Registration for children under 10 is free, and shirts are also available for them while stock lasts.

Participants can sign up online at breastcancerfoundation.com or in person at the Breast Cancer Foundation office in No. 19 Grand Harbour. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and on Saturdays, 18 and 25 Feb., it will be open for sign-ups and shirt collections.
