Police have named the victim of Wednesday morning’s hit-and-run collision along West Bay Road as Abele Hiwet.
Hiwet, 38, an Italian national living in Cayman, was flung from his electric bicycle when he collided with a Jeep Cherokee in the vicinity of Queen’s Court Plaza shortly before 1am on 8 March.
The driver of the Jeep involved in the accident, a 36-year-old man from West Bay who fled the scene, was tracked down and arrested a short time later.
The accident remains under investigation and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the RCIPS as 949-4777.

The cyclist did not collide with the vehicle. They were the victim here. They were struck by it.
That said I commend you for at least calling it a collision rather than the commonly used “accident”, a word which takes the position of absolving the driver of the vehicle from blame
