Rodney Robert McField has entered guilty pleas to possession of a loaded illegal handgun.
Appearing via video link on Friday, 9 June, McField, 30, of George Town, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The charges stem from an arrest on 12 May this year, during which police recovered a .38 Taurus handgun and five rounds of ammunition.
McField also faces four other charges – causing fear or provocation of violence, possession of ganja, dangerous driving, and failing to stop. However, these charges were not put to McField during the brief Grand Court hearing.
“In light of these guilty pleas, can we have some time to speak with the Crown, with a view of having these charges reviewed?” asked McField’s lawyer Prathna Bodden.
Bodden told the court that since there were no exceptional circumstances around the gun charges, she did not see the need for a social inquiry report, which would delay the sentencing by at least two months.
A two-week adjournment was granted for the prosecution to review the additional charges. McField is expected to be sentenced in July. He remains in custody.
