Jordan Crooks, the 2022 short-course 50-metre freestyle world champion, is looking to add the long-course title to his resume next month as he continues to prepare for the FINA World Championships, in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Athens Bulldog Swim Club held a small invitation-only meet earlier this month, for swimmers from about 20 programmes, including the University of Tennessee, where Crooks, 21, is a junior.
Crooks, a top contender for the championships in Fukuoka, which take place from 14-30 July, won both the 50 free (22.38 seconds) and 100 free (49.32) in the 50m pool at the Bulldog Summer Invite in Georgia, the only two races in which he competed, at his first meet since winning gold at the NCAA Championships in March.
His times are not far off the 22.20 personal best and 48.79 that he swam at last year’s long-course world championships, placing him 19th and 21st in the 50 and 100 free, respectively.
