The 2023 Cayman Islands Junior Golf Championships was held on 3-4 June at the North Sound Golf Club and featured 17 players from ages 11 to 18 in five divisions.

In the Boys U19 36-hole Championship, from the Black Tees (6,397 yards), Daniel De Quintal edged out Ben Croucher to be crowned the champion. De Quintal shot 73 and 77 to end 8 over par for the tournament.

The Boys U16 competition, playing from the Blue Tees, was a close contest. Joshua Richardson triumphed with a total score of 162, while Luke Dodson and Joshua Dickens tied second with 184.

Unfortunately, due to rain, the girls were only able to play 31 holes, but this didn’t prevent an exciting competition with Bethany Hawkins coming out top with a total score of 164 for Girls U16, followed closely by Milanna Lamontagne with 165.

The Red Tee tournament, Girls U14 category, was won by Katie Walton with a total score of 153, while the Boys U14, over 30 holes, was won by Hunter Kassam, with John Trout being the runner-up.

During the trophy ceremony, the Cayman Islands Golf Association thanked the Junior Program sponsors for their support (Grant Thornton Cayman Islands and the R&A) as well as North Sound Golf Club for preparing the course and hosting the event.

All the junior golfers who took part were congratulated on the standard of play over the two days.

This year’s Junior Island Championship was ideally timed, with the Cayman National Junior Team looking forward to representing the islands against the best golfing juniors in the Caribbean in the 35th Annual Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship being hosted in Cayman from the 3rd-8th of July.
