A two-day mourning period will precede the official funeral of the late Captain Eldon Kirkconnell, which the Cayman Islands government has announced will be held on Saturday, 1 July.
The former elected legislator for the Sister Islands and former member of the Executive Council passed away on 8 June, at the age of 96.
According to a statement issued Monday, in recognition of his “significant and sterling service to the Government and people of the Cayman Islands, Captain Kirkconnell will be accorded an official funeral by the Cayman Islands Government”.

There will be a flag lowering ceremony at the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue at 9am on Thursday.
The following day, Friday, 30 June, an official lying-in-state will be held at the House of Parliament from 10am until 2pm.
