Cayman Pride parade ‘getting better with each year’

Organisers of Cayman’s annual LGBTQ Pride parade say Saturday’s event was a success and keeps getting better with each year.

In its third iteration, the march along West Bay Road attracted hundreds of participants and spectators.

“This year’s parade was fabulous,” said Cayman Islands LGBTQ Foundation President Noel Cayasso-Smith.

“It was beautiful to see people from the LGBTQ community and others, who are not a part of the community, but are supports come together and enjoy themselves.”

In previous years, the parade happened in June to coincide with the global Pride Month and other LGBTQ celebration activities in Cayman.

However, this year the march was shifted to August, which resulted in fewer participants.

“We understand that many people are off-island with their kids right now,” Cayasso-Smith said. “So next year, we are going to move it back to June.

He added, “This parade is done to help show people that gay people are a part of the community. We buy products and services, we are family members and loved ones, and we are happy for the support that we have received.”
