A flash storm on Saturday, 12 August, caused by a tropical wave brought strong winds and heavy rains to Grand Cayman.
Roaring thunder shook homes from West Bay to South Sound as bright flashes of lightning illuminated the dark grey skies from about 1pm.

Several areas of the island were temporarily flooded during and after the storm, including a section of Owen Roberts Drive and areas of West Bay Road.
On its Facebook page Saturday morning, the Cayman Islands National Weather Service had warned bad weather was likely.

“A tropical wave currently moving away from our area, and aided by an upper level system is expected to produce some showers and thunder across our area through this evening.
“Radar images show isolated showers in and around the Cayman area moving towards the west,” the post said.
It added that temperatures will rise to the low 90s degrees Fahrenheit with a heat index of 107°F.
“Winds will be east to southeast at 10 to 15 knots. Seas will be slight to moderate with wave heights of two to four feet,” the service said.
