Police arrested a 23-year-old man who, after being reported for allegedly carrying a knife and threatening another man on Seven Mile Public Beach, refused to be searched by police and then made threats to officers.
According to an RCIPS press release, officers were called to the beach shortly before 1:30pm Wednesday, 20 Sept., when it was reported that the man had brandished a knife and threatened the other man.
“Officers attended the location and approached the suspect, requesting a search to determine the allegation of a weapon being on his person,” police said. “The man refused the search and became aggressive towards the officers.
“A brief struggle ensued and the man was detained by the officers and arrested for disorderly conduct.”
No knife was found on the arrested man.
He was taken to Cayman Islands Detention Centre where he “continued to behave in an aggressive manner and made threats against the officers”, the RCIPS said.
A further search of his person was conducted and a quantity of ganja was recovered, but the suspect refused to submit to a drug test, according to police.
As a result, the suspect, of George Town, was further arrested for disorderly conduct at a police station, making threats to kill, possession of ganja and failing to provide a specimen.
He has since been granted bail pending further investigation, the RCIPS stated.
