Wailing and screams erupted along Sound Way, George Town, shortly after 10:30am today when a man was murdered in broad daylight in front of his child.
In a statement released by the RCIPS shortly after 12pm, police said the officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Sound Way and Shedden Road.
“It was reported that a man sustained gunshot wounds at the location,” said police. “He was taken to the [Cayman Islands] Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
Eyewitnesses told the Cayman Compass that a man was approached from behind and shot multiple times in a dirt parking lot a few feet from a liquor store.
“I was sitting under the tent right next to him, when a spirit said ‘move’, so you know I just moved the same time,” a bystander, who asked not to be identified, told the Compass.
He added, “A few minutes later I heard a loud ‘Blam!’ And when I came and checked he was on the ground and his daughter a few feet away from him.”
When Compass staff arrived on the scene, the family members and friends of the deceased, whose identity has not been released, were visibly devastated as they held on to a toddler at the scene.
Police say the killer fled the scene in what is thought to be a light-coloured Honda Fit. No description of the shooter has been released as yet.
Sound Way remains partially closed while officers continue to process the scene.
Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or have any information about the killing to call the Major Incident Room at 649-2930.

Terrible. This should resolved as soon as possible and the guilty person should be punished to the full extent of the law. This is not what Cayman is.
This is not the Cayman I knew. Some evil force has been let go.
Oh my. Where are all these firearms coming from? This is something that maybe arms are being delivered in the dark of night on the water? There should be no leniency on these matters to save Cayman’s safety reputation for their citizens.
