The University College of the Cayman Islands held its annual Convocation Ceremony last week to recognise its 150 highest performing students.
The event celebrates those who have earned at least nine credits in the preceding term and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Special awards were also given to students who had achieved the highest cumulative GPA in their respective programmes.
The ceremony, which took place on 28 Sept. at the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall, was attended by several notable guests.
They included Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, who also acts as education minister, and Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan, along with faculty, students and sponsors.
Dr Robert Robertson, president and CEO of UCCI, told attendees the ceremony is a very important event designed to recognise and celebrate student success and excellence.
“Our class of 2023 is proof that UCCI is more than a place where community members can learn a skill,” he said.
“It is an institution of higher learning that provides students with learning opportunities that enable individuals to be globally competitive and economically independent.
“With that as our mission, we not only teach skills; we cultivate entrepreneurs.”
Following Dr Robertson’s address, the presentation of awards commenced and recipients of the Dean’s and President’s Lists for autumn 2022 and spring 2023 were recognised.
