A 49-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, 13 Dec., on suspicion of ‘insulting the modesty of a woman’, according to a police press release.

Just after 2.30pm, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Seven Mile Public Beach.

Police attended the location and made inquiries, resulting in the arrest of a man, the release said.

While at the location, police suspected that people were consuming drugs and illegally selling alcohol.

Officers searched several people but no illegal substances were found. However, they recovered alcoholic drinks in a cooler which appeared to be intended for illegal sales.

Police are liaising with partners at the Department of Commerce and Investment and the Public Lands Commission to investigate the allegations.

According to the Penal Code (2022 Revision), someone who insults the modesty of a woman carries out certain actions with intent.

They include speaking, making a sound or gesture, or showing an object, and must be seen by the woman, or intrude upon the privacy of the woman.

Upon conviction the offender may be jailed for up to three years.
