In its ongoing aim to provide training to those who would like to learn self-defence for personal protection and to gain confidence, The Academy – in partnership with The Security Centre – is offering a free six-week course, starting 17 Jan., designed for females and teenagers ages 13 and up.

“Our dedicated programme strives to empower women,” the press release from organisers said. “We believe this initiative goes beyond physical skills. [It fosters] confidence, situational awareness, and a sense of empowerment. Our carefully crafted curriculum not only imparts effective self-defence techniques; it also emphasises mental strength and resilience.”

The aim of the course is to help women gain practical skills to enhance their personal safety while building a supportive community.

“Research consistently highlights the positive impact of self-defence programmes on women, contributing to increased self-esteem, stress reduction, and a heightened sense of security,” the release stated.

Organisers noted that priority registration will be given to participants from the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre and CAYS Foundation.
