Need to open mental health facility

The Cayman Compass ‘gimme, gimme story’ of Quincy Brown, a brilliant comedian from the Brac, is must-reading for all Caymanians.

I remember Quincy from well over 20 years ago, when he was an intelligent young man trying to make his way in the entertainment world. Quincy’s fame in Cayman was spreading.

Sadly, he became addicted to drugs and alcohol and wasn’t able to see his way clear of mental illness for decades. Because of his addictions, his mental illness wasn’t treated on Cayman Brac. Quincy Brown is now free of drugs at the age of 48.

Mental illness must be comprehensively treated in Grand Cayman; not in Jamaica, and not in the United States. Grand Cayman has a new long-term residential mental health facility built a few years ago in East End. This facility has not been opened. When will this facility become a place where mentally ill Caymanians can recover?
