The cooler temperatures Cayman has been experiencing over the past few days are likely to continue next week as a cold front moves into the area, bringing near-gale-force winds and possibly up to 11-foot waves, according to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
The weather service noted that a strong high-pressure system exists behind the front, and is forecast to produce high winds and very rough seas.
The local met office on Friday issued a severe weather bulletin, warning that the cold front is expected to bring strong westerly winds of 25-30 knots and wave heights of 9-11 feet on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Meteorologist Shamal Clarke said, based on the current information available, local temperatures on Monday and Tuesday are likely to be in the low 80s Fahrenheit during the day, dropping to the low 70s at night. But, he noted, “With the strong winds, it might feel a bit less.”
“Given the latest forecast information, marine conditions are expected to deteriorate on Monday,” the weather service stated, adding that it expected a marine warning to be in place for Monday and Tuesday.
The west coast of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman could potentially experience more significant impacts than other coastal areas, the weather service noted.
