Anyone looking to do some bonding with their furry friends while supporting animal welfare may look no further than this weekend’s Humane Society Walk and Wag 5K fundraiser.
The walk starts at 7am on Sunday, 25 Feb. at Safehaven. Participants are welcome to either bring their own pets or stop by the shelter from 6am to walk one of the current residents.
Last year, more than 300 people joined the walk, according to Humane Society board member Saskia Salden, and she said the shelter aims to have an even bigger turnout this year.
Salden said hopes are high that a number of the 73 cats and 67 dogs currently at the shelter will find forever homes. Ad additional 110 cats and 66 dogs are in foster homes.
“We have had some adoptions each year, so we hope this year will be no different,” she said.
Registration is $25 per person, and those interested can register in advance at the shelter or through Cayman Active, or they can sign up at Sunday’s event. The first 200 people to sign up will receive a free T-shirt, and everyone will get a raffle ticket.
Funds raised will go toward the feeding, housing and medical care for the shelter’s animals.
