Multi-award-winning music group, The Black Eyed Peas, will be headlining at the 2024 edition of Taste of Cayman festival being held on Festival Green in Camana Bay over the weekend of 12 and 13 April.

Organisers of the food and drink festival announced on its social media pages Tuesday that it is offering “an expanded entertainment menu, with a side of The Black Eyed Peas.”

The post stated, “The six-time GRAMMY award-winning music group is coming to the Festival Green in Camana Bay for the first time as part of the newly formatted weekend for Taste of Cayman Food & Drink Festival 2024 presented by Dart.”

The trio, consisting of Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap, and Taboo, have been topping the music charts for over 20 years. According to the Taste of Cayman website, the music group have collaborated with “successful artists such as Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Travis Barker, David Guetta and Jack Johnson.”

The social media post noted Taste of Cayman will be serving up “an additional festival night” on Friday, 12 April, from 7pm, “to digest all of the group’s greatest hits, including chart-topping records like ‘I Gotta Feeling’, ‘Boom Boom Pow’, ‘Rock That Body’ and ‘Don’t Stop the Party’”.

The annual festival will continue on Saturday from 5pm to 11:30pm to showcase the islands’ culinary scene, featuring more than 25 food and drinks vendors, mixology and food contests, special local performances, fireworks and a “main stage jam-packed line-up to dance the night away”.

Elevating the experience

It’s the first time in recent years that the festival will be headlined by a band that isn’t a tribute artist. In previous years, the festival has seen tribute acts covering popular songs from prominent international artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Adele, Lady Gaga, Simply Queen, Cher and Madonna.

“The Board of Directors has been hard at work since the pandemic to elevate the experience,” Jay Ehrhart, executive director for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, told the Compass.

“Last year, we tantalized your taste buds by bringing in international chefs to add a flavourful twist to the event. This year, we’ve added an international musical performance that will take your culinary journey to the next level – it’s going to be a feast for both your ears and palate!”

An estimated 5,000 attendees flock for the annual event, which is now in its 35th year. What started as a group of restaurants from the Cayman Islands Restaurant Association meeting in a field for a chilli cook-off, 35 years later, has grown into one of the islands’ largest culinary celebrations.

Ehrhart said, “We’ve got even bigger plans for next year, with expanded offerings and exciting events that will make Taste of Cayman an unforgettable experience that you won’t want to miss.”
