The much-anticipated short film, ‘Ivan’, written and directed by Caymanian Jazz Pitcairn, will be making its home debut this weekend at Red Sky at Night on the grounds of the F.J. Harquail Cultural Centre.
The nine-minute film depicts the life-changing events of Hurricane Ivan, which devastated the Cayman Islands in September 2004. Along with offering Pitcairn’s personal experience of the storm, the film also raises awareness of climate change and underrepresented Caribbean communities.

Pitcairn will be among 50 local talents at the 11th annual multidisciplinary arts festival showcasing an array of music, film, theatre and visual arts.
CNCF has confirmed the line-up will include DJ Cardiac, Pandemix, Madame Nirosa, Denys Carbo, 5th Division Band, Heat, Fuego Latin Dance, Floetry, John Gray High School Drama- Wizard of Oz and Dreamchasers Cayman.
“Red Sky is a signature event on Cayman’s annual calendar,” said Natalie Urquhart, CEO of the foundation, said in a press release on the event, which is being held on Saturday, 2 March, from 3pm to 11pm.
“It is a celebration of who we are as a people and provides a platform to highlight the incredible talent, diversity and creativity that exists in our community,” she said. “CNCF’s mission for the past 40-plus years is to stimulate, facilitate and preserve cultural and artistic expression; Red Sky at Night supports that vision through its promotion of Cayman’s heritage and culture.”

Urquhart encourages individuals and families to come out and “enjoy this event and support Cayman’s creatives who bring so much colour and vibrance to our lives and our community”.
With entertainment presented on two stages, visitors will “revel in a sensory-filled experience at this multi-cultural arts festival, as the sounds of the steel pan, fiddle, and drums, and the aroma of mouthwatering local and regional culinary delicacies waft in the night air”, according to the CNCF website.
Tickets for Red Sky at Night can be purchased on the TicketsPlus website or at the gate on the day of the event. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors, and free for children aged 2 and under.
