Police have arrested a 24-year-old West Bay man in connection with Sunday’s shooting at Ed Bush Stadium, which left seven people nursing gunshot injuries.

The man was arrested following a proactive police operation on Friday, the RCIPS said in a statement Saturday morning.

He remains in custody.

As investigations continue into the 25 Feb. shooting at Ed Bush Stadium, police said they are seeking a number of other persons who are believed to be connected to the incident.

“Police have also conducted several searches in the days since the incident occurred. Proactive operations and searches will continue in the days to come, and members of the public will continue to see an increased armed police presence, particularly in targeted areas, as well as proactive police patrols and vehicle checkpoints,” the RCIPS said in the statement.

Earlier in the week, Superintendent Peter Lansdown pleaded for additional information, in particular from those who were present at the football match.

The shooting occurred at the mid-way mark of the match between the Academy and Elite football teams.

“We believe there were hundreds of people present at the Ed Bush stadium at the time of this shooting, but we have only been able to make contact with a small percentage. I would urge anyone who was present, including families and friends of the teams playing or other persons present, to contact us, if they haven’t done so already,” Lansdown said in his statement.

He said any information, “no matter how seemingly minor, could assist in the investigation, and allow us to more quickly bring the perpetrators to justice”.
