A third suspect was arrested over the weekend in connection with the 25 Feb. shooting at Ed Bush Stadium and later bailed pending further investigation, police have confirmed.

The 21-year-old man from West Bay was arrested on Saturday in relation to the shooting, in which seven people were injured.

Police, in a press release issued Monday evening, said the man was released on bail with conditions as investigations continue.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and suspicion of attempted murder, police confirmed to the Cayman Compass via email on Tuesday.

His arrest follows the detention of two men earlier this month.

Those men, ages 24 and 30 of West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm in connection with the shooting.

They too were bailed with conditions.

Police Commissioner Kurt Walton, in announcing the release of the first two men, said the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service appreciated the public’s concern regarding the granting of bail to persons suspected of being involved in such “a serious crime, even with restrictions such as electronic monitoring.

“But we ask for patience as we continue the investigative process, and as we follow a number of leads. We reaffirm our commitment to bringing those responsible to justice while ensuring the safety of everyone in our community.”

All of the shooting victims have been released from hospital.

Meanwhile, acting on police advice, the Cayman Islands Football Association has suspended matches at both the Ed Bush and Haig Bodden stadiums.

CIFA confirmed in a statement to the Cayman Compass that in meetings with the RCIPS it was suggested games not be held at the two locations until further notice.

Police have also said they are continuing with “increased targeted patrols” in West Bay.

Cayman Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest, charge or conviction of the individuals responsible. The Cayman Islands government has offered an additional $200,000 reward toward solving the crime.

Anyone with information on the incident can call 911 or the RCIPS Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
