A 72-year-old cruise ship visitor has died after a water-related incident in George Town on Monday, police have said.
The circumstances around the man’s death are currently under investigation, the RCIPS said in a 13 March statement, however they say his death is “not believed to be suspicious at this time”.
The man, who is from Illinois, was a passenger aboard a visiting cruise ship.
His identity has not been released.
Police said shortly before 11am on Monday 11 March, officers and other emergency services were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man at the South Terminal, George Town.
Officers, upon arriving at the scene, saw individuals attending to a man who was receiving CPR aboard a harbour patrol boat.
Emergency services transferred the man to an ambulance, and transported him to George Town Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.
No further details were released.
The resuscitation of the man created a stir along the waterfront as visitors looked on as medical personnel administered CPR.
The RCIPS had offered condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
