Scotiabank recently hosted girls from the local community on International Women’s Day (March 8) at a special luncheon aimed at reflecting on the achievements of women and motivating the next generation of women and girls.
The event, which was held at the Grand Old House Restaurant welcomed girls from the Cayman Islands Girls’ Brigade and the YMCA of the Cayman Islands for an engaging and inspiring afternoon focused on empowering the upcoming generation to advance the work necessary to achieve gender parity.
“It’s important to acknowledge the significance of International Women’s Day and I am pleased to let you know that, at Scotiabank, we firmly believe that investing in women is not just a one-day event. It’s a commitment that we uphold every single day, throughout the year,” said Sarah Hobbs, Vice President and Country Head at Scotiabank Cayman.
She reaffirmed the bank’s devotion to inspiring inclusion by providing access to opportunities and breaking barriers to success for vulnerable groups and noted that the bank has been actively working to advance the inclusion of women across its footprint by cultivating a work culture where women can thrive and reach their full potential.
“We recognize that inequality and gender bias are persistent challenges that women continue to face, and these barriers are compounded for those who identify as members of multiple equity-deserving groups. At Scotiabank, we are committed to actively dismantling these barriers and increasing opportunities for women across our organisation.”
During the luncheon, the girls heard from inspiring female leaders in the Cayman Islands, who shared their personal journeys, challenges and successes to embolden the girls to persevere as they navigate their own difficulties. In addition to Hobbs, the panel included Business Executive, Dara Flowers, Sports Program Administrator and athlete, Lauren Hew, and UCCI student, Keira Bodden.
Hobbs told the students that “Empowering young women like yourselves with discussions like these is vital for shaping a more equitable future. You are the leaders of tomorrow, and it’s our responsibility to provide you with the tools and inspiration to break barriers and achieve your dreams.”
As part of its ongoing efforts to empower women and promote gender equality, Scotiabank continues to implement initiatives that support women’s economic empowerment, education and leadership development through its internal and external efforts.
