Clifton Hunter High School will resume classes on Tuesday after repairs to a major leak in the underground pipes carrying chilled water to the air-conditioning system were completed on Monday.

Department of Education Services Director Mark Ray, in a brief update on the school on Monday, said classes will resume Tuesday morning as he thanked parents for their patience and understanding.

“Following the successful repair of the leak in the pipes carrying chilled water to the air conditioning system at Clifton Hunter High School, the Ministry of Education and Department of Education Services advise that the school will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 March,” the ministry said Monday night.

Just hours before the start of the school day on Monday, the DES and the education ministry announced the closure of the school after the leak was discovered.

Original story: Clifton Hunter Hunter was closed on Monday with in-person classes suspended after a major underground leak in the pipes carrying chilled water to the air-conditioning system, the Department of Education Services has said.

DES Director Mark Ray, in an early morning message Monday, advised parents to collect students already at the school and that, in addition, school buses would be returning to Clifton Hunter to transport students home.

“The school apologizes for the inconvenience caused and will put measures in place for delivery of remote instruction,” he said.

The leak, Ray said, required excavation to fix and, as a result, school buildings would be without air conditioning on Monday, prompting the closure.

The Ministry of Education and the DES also issued a joint statement Monday morning saying that the facilities team is working to address this matter.
