After one of its Boeing 737-8 planes was taken out of service last week for unscheduled maintenance, Cayman Airways has announced that another aircraft is also out of action as it undergoes a scheduled three-yearly heavy maintenance.

This means that only two of the national carrier’s four 737-8s – previously known as Max 8s – are currently operational, leading to changes to its schedule and the use of other airlines.

According to a statement issued by Cayman Airways this morning, the aircraft undergoing heavy maintenance is scheduled to return to service later today (30 May).

“This will enable CAL to resume its regular schedule and, as a result, the current irregular operations, including the need for any contracted airline services, is expected to diminish starting Friday, May 31, as the airline returns to normal operations,” Cayman Airways stated.

It added, “The airline’s reservations team is actively working directly with affected customers to best accommodate their travel needs. Cayman Airways sincerely apologizes for any inconveniences caused, and greatly appreciates the patience and continued support of is loyal customers.”
