In a dominant effort, Caymanian beach volleyball duo of Joanna Robinson and Luna Ebanks emerged as undefeated champions of the CAZOVA Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association FIVB World Championship Under-19 Qualifiers.
The young ladies were joined by teammates Dylan Lynee and Will Duty, who competed in the U19 boys group where they barely missed out on a third place finish at the event, held at the Courland Beach Sports Facility in Black Rock, Tobago.
Robinson and Ebanks went unbeaten in four games after a five-team round-robin series – a performance that earned them an automatic qualification to the U19 world championships, taking place in China in August.
The girls first defeated Aruba 2-0 (21-9, 21-10) and Barbados 2-0 (21-9, 21-7). Robinson and Ebanks would advance to the semi-finals where they performed masterfully against Grenada, winning 2-0 (21-5, 21-8).
Robinson and Ebanks eventually completed their undefeated run in the finals against Trinidad and Tobago in what was Cayman’s most challenging match of the event, in which they prevailed with a 2-1 (21-9, 11-21, 15-9) win.

The Cayman boys, though, finished out of a medal contention. Lynee and Duty got off to an exceptional start in both games against Bahamas and Barbados in the preliminaries.
Lynee and Duty secured the 2-0 (16-21, 16-21) win over Bahamas before beating Barbados 2-0 (23-21, 21-14).
Their performance placed them in the semi-finals against Trinidad and Tobago where the Cayman duo showed determination but it wasn’t enough, as they lost 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) victory.
Lynee and Duty then faced Saint Kitts and Nevis for the bronze medal. The young men would secure the first set but dropped the last two – losing 1-2 (21-17, 15-21, 11-15).
