Hazard Management Cayman Islands is urging residents to be extra careful on the roads this weekend as the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning.
The weather service, on Friday afternoon, issued a severe weather notification warning of possible flooding in low-lying areas as rainfall is expected to increase in the coming days.
The bulletin said that “an upper level trough along with excessive moisture over the northwestern Caribbean will support an increased chance for heavy showers, with some thunder over the next few days”.
These conditions, the weather service projects, will bring an estimated 1-1.5 inches of rainfall daily on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Saturday’s forecast indicated that there will likely be scattered thundershowers, with temperatures projected to be a high of 88ºF, and a low of 77ºF. Winds are expected to be south to southeast at 10 to 15 knots. Seas will be slight to moderate with a wave height of 2 to 4 feet.
It expected that Monday small craft operators will be advised that they should exercise caution over open water.
